Where we are:
The J3 Ranch Registered Angus operation is located near Oakdale, California. Our cowherd winters in the Sierra Nevada foothill country at approximately 1,200' elevation, and summers on the clover pastures of the San Joaquin Valley.
Our philosophy:
The foundation of our business is based on the needs of the commercial cowman and the consumer. We understand the fundamental requirements of the commercial cowherd for genetics that deliver the traits for which cattlemen get paid today...a live calf that weans off heavy and attains maximum yearling weight on a minimum of feed. Our genetics add in fertility and maternal traits along with functional phenotype and an emphasis on high-grading carcass traits, packaged in a feed efficient, moderate frame size.
Where the industry is going:
We believe strongly that the packing industry is moving towards carcass selection of live animals via ultrasound to determine the value of cattle before they buy them. When that happens, those cattlemen who had the foresight to build in optimum carcass size along with marbling, ribeye and low fat traits today will be rewarded, while those whose cattle do not grade will face even more profit pressure and low returns.
The difference comes down to one thing: Genetics. You can start investing today by using the right sires and retaining the right kind of replacement females, or be prepared to compete tomorrow against those who did.
